Just get it done.
There have been several articles posted about the need for smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, and family escape plans. I’m sure it sounds like I am beating a dead horse but daily we respond to homes that are missing some if not all the above. It pains us to see homes that are not even remotely prepared for an emergency that could take a life of someone living there.
Smoke detectors cover a radius of 21’, with one needed for EACH sleeping area, as well as one in every hallway with a detector no more than 30’ apart. Every level including attics and basements also need a smoke alarm. Mobile home occupants especially need to take heed to having detectors inside and outside of every room; and especially need to sleep with their bedroom doors closed at night. It will give you precious seconds to escape in the event of a fire.
Carbon monoxide detectors are literally life savers. If your home experiences a carbon monoxide leak, it does *NOT* present like fire smoke. Carbon monoxide mixes and equalizes with the room air so that occupants are not easily alerted to them being poisoned to death. Without an alarm, sleeping occupants will just die in their sleep. Occupants who are moving throughout the home during the day will experience headaches, nausea, and disorientation; often times not being able to get out before being rescued.
